Habitat for Humanity of Metro DenverAbout Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver

Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver builds and sells homes to hard-working people in need of decent and affordable housing. We are an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-denominational Christian housing photoministry and global home-building movement. Habitat welcomes all people, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or any other difference, to join us and build homes for people in need.

Locally, we were founded by volunteers in 1979, and since then, have built 395 homes in the Denver metro area, housing over 1,700 people. We are recognized as one of the finest affiliates in the country, and were honored as the National Affiliate of the Year in 2005.

We also consistently win awards for our top-rated energy efficient homes. Our homes are well-built, easy to maintain and enhance the neighborhoods in which we build.

Worldwide, Habitat for Humanity has more than 2,300 local affiliates, state support organizations and national organizations in nearly 90 countries. Completing a home somewhere in the world every 10 minutes, Habitat builds nearly 26,000 homes per year around the world.

Mission Statement:

Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver works in partnership with God and people from all walks of life to build decent, affordable homes in which people can live and grow into all that God intends.

How the Habitat Program Works

Habitat for Humanity is a homeownership program. We sell our homes to families who go through a rigorous screening process and participate in building their home. The homes are sold at no profit to Habitat and with a no-interest loan. Families make a down payment and contribute 250-500 hours of sweat-equity to help build their own home, as well as the homes of other Habitat families. Their monthly mortgage payment helps fund more Habitat homes. Our homeowner families also participate in Home Buyer Education classes which help foster increased economic independence and self-reliance. Qualifying families are 1) currently in need of decent, stable and affordable housing, 2) are willing to help build their home, and 30 meet our financial requirements. Habitat for Humanity is about so much more than building houses. We build houses so that families can break the cycle of poverty and have a firm foundation upon which to build better lives. According to a recent survey, 99% of local Habitat families have set different goals for themselves since moving into their Habitat home and 100% feel better about their future. Because of the increased stability homeownership offers, children do better in school and families become more involved in their community. "Before Habitat, I didn't know that there was more to life than just living paycheck to paycheck," says Dani, Habitat homeowner since 1993. Read about some of our Habitat Homeowners.

How You Can Help

We depend on the donations of time and money to make the Habitat program work. Funds received from individuals, corporations, foundations, and faith organizations go towards our homeownership program. Volunteers are an integral part of the Habitat for Humanity program with both skilled and unskilled individuals assisting to build homes alongside our partner families. Volunteers also serve on committees, work in the office or assist at our Habitat Home Improvement Outlets. By donating or volunteering you can become part of something lasting and profound.

We can't end poverty housing alone, so please join us . . . we have many more homes and lives to build!
